看似儿戏的战争冒险故事，因为编导安排得当，加上制作也相当认真，拍成了这部颇为紧张刺激的娱乐片。罗克．赫德森在片中饰演美国突击队队长透纳，负责率领队员空降德军占领的意大利北部执行任务，不料遭到埋伏的德军残灭，侥幸只有他一人负伤逃走，被女医生施维亚．歌辛娜所救。透纳伤愈后带领一群意大利儿童再度组成突击队，终于将德军控制的一座水坝爆炸掉。导演利用战争片罕见的儿童特攻队来完成不可能的任务，戏剧张力经营得相当成功，男女主角的成人戏也表现称职。
