公元422年刘义符即位，大臣徐羡之为防止谢灵运等结党营私，故将谢灵运调离京城任永嘉太守。谢灵运到达永嘉后被这里的山水所迷，写下旷世山水诗，被后人称为“山水诗鼻祖”，更是对后来诗人产生极深影响。
