该剧取材于内蒙古自治区乌拉盖管理区“马背警队”的真实生活。井辉的人生志向是当一名人民警察，在警校临毕业实习中被分配到沃尔浒盟虎尔特旗“马背警队”给老警察苏图博当助手，从那一天起，井辉从一名稚嫩青年开始逐渐转变为成熟的警察。他在零下四十度的严寒环境下和师傅与战友们打击盗猎分子，保护国家资源，救助野生动物。当地有一股凶狠狡诈的盗猎分子，井辉在师傅帮助下和他们斗智斗勇，最后成功将他们一网打尽，还草原一片晴朗的天空。
