- 三国时期,经过连年的频繁战争,蜀国和吴国的力量越来越削弱,而魏国则越来越占优势。公元263年,魏国的大将军司马昭任命锺会和邓艾为镇西将军,统领兵马,分数路同时出击蜀国。蜀国的军事首领姜维连吃败仗,处于很不利的境地。当年十月,邓艾决定趁姜维率蜀军主力应付锺会等路兵马进攻的机会,巧出奇兵,从阴平小道直插蜀国的都城——成都。这阴平小道要经过七百多里荒无人烟的高山深谷,十分艰险。同时,由于运输困难,还受到饥饿的威胁。邓艾身先士率,逢山开道,遇水搭桥。有时干脆用毛毡裹住身体,滚下山来。将士们皆攀木缘崖,鱼贯而进。通过阴平小道,便很快收降了江油蜀军守将马邈;接着又打败了前来绵竹抵抗的蜀将诸葛瞻,兵抵雒城,直逼成都。蜀主刘禅一看大势已去,只好乞降。
