本片是由唐漠和于蓝编导、北京电影制片厂摄制完成的艺术性纪录片，反映新中国成立后，北京市政府取缔妓院和改造妓女这一社会历史事件。新中国对于妓女的教育改造工作重在教给劳动技能，提供工作出路，让她们有尊严健康地追求自己的幸福，并对于压榨妓女的领家老板予以应有的惩治。
