本片不是中国大陆观众熟悉的那部美国动画，而是26集日本动画，改编自马克吐温的同名小说《哈克历险记》（不过前6集明显是取材于《汤姆历险记》）。
本作的姐妹篇《汤姆历险记》也曾被改编成动画，1980年出品，一共49集，收录于“世界名作剧场”中，人设与本作不同。
