电影贯穿于一个列车上的男子对于童年的回忆中，同时穿插成年后的自己对记忆的思考。拍摄自故乡中国和国外各种影像——几乎都是没有人的镜头，但人的身影反复被暗示——被交叉剪辑重组，以此重现童年时的经历。影片重现了一个儿童心中主观的、不真实的外界世界，与他内心世界的成长改变相交错。
