1975年夏天，意大利传奇导演皮埃尔·保罗·帕索里尼正在制作他那部极具争议的影片《索多玛120天》，同时也在创作小说《石油》。在这些日子里，一个叫皮诺·佩洛西的年青人一直相伴其左右。一天晚上，《索多玛120天》的底片被佩洛西的朋友从实验室盗走了。11月1日，得到消息的帕索里尼连夜和佩洛西赶赴奥斯蒂亚去取回他的底片，不料就这样踏入了敌人的圈套。这是一场精心策划的谋杀，而背后的真相多年以来一直被旁人歪曲掩盖着。
