罗琳表示写该故事的灵感来自她儿子的一对玩具猪。讲述男孩Jack心爱的小猪玩具Dur Pig(叫它DP)丢了，Jack很伤心，虽然获得了替代品——一个名叫Christmas Pig(叫它CP)的小猪玩偶，但Jack并不喜欢新猪。为了让Jack高兴起来，CP提出与他一起冒险，去找回DP，于是一趟去往“遗忘之地”的危险旅程开始了。一人一猪在途中遇上了圣诞老人等各种角色，最终Jack懂得了失去的意义，与CP一起回到了家中。
