太平洋戦争の３年８か月を、当時の日記や手記から追体験するシリーズ。第４回は市民の犠牲が急増した１９４４年。１万の住民が犠牲となったサイパン島の戦いを、１４歳の少女の手記からたどる。この年、本土空襲が本格化、戦火が市民に及ぶ。追い詰められた日本は、人間を兵器にする「特攻」に踏み出す。その犠牲となった若者たちは、みずみずしい感性で、思いを書き残していた。市民の生活はいかに戦争に侵食されていったのか。
