《新上海屋檐下》里的故事就发生在社区中心。下岗回到社区工作的阿福哥和阿福嫂整天在社区里忙忙碌碌，居民也有事没事地到“中心”谈天说地，讲讲家长里短，社区里还有一对阿卿夫妇和陶江虎(上海话“淘浆糊”)、范梅妹……一堆热心肠的人们闹出不少笑话和矛盾。
